The ‘Tempsafe’ is a robust, well-constructed storage unit, designed specifically for installation into vehicles. Fabrication of he storage enclosure is based on folded and welded steel plate construction. All metalwork is laser profiled, and all sharp edges are removed. The entire storage unit is powder coated with a hardwearing finish. A hinged front incorporates a heavy-duty very secure slam lock. This mates with a closure plate on the main body of the housing and offers extremely good security, whilst at the same time allowing the door to be opened and closed by the user with minimum fuss. The Tempsafe can be mounted in either the vertical or horizontal axes, and simple fixing brackets can be adapted to suit virtually any vehicle type. The heavy-duty construction methods ensure the enclosure will not make an easy target for potential theft. Internally, the Tempsafe incorporates a sliding tray mechanism on to which the computer system is docked. The tray runs on precision slide rails, which are extended for insertion/removal of the system, and retracted to allow the door to be closed.

The high quality of these components mean that easy access is provided by virtue of the fact the rails extend fully and support the system during removal. The mechanism includes a simple ‘stay out’ latch, which enables the computer to be docked without the tray sliding back in to the enclosure. A small amount of pressure to push the slides home disengages the stay out latch. The Tempsafe incorporates fully controlled electronics for providing a controlled power feed to the sytem when docked. This ensures the system is always supplied with the correct amount of charge, and when fully charged, the power unit will reduce its feed to a trickle, to prevent damage to the system, as well as minimising the risk of decharging the vehicles battery.

Because of the ease of docking/undocking the system to the Tempsafe, the computer can be used anywhere within the vehicle, or indeed out of the vehicle if necessary – yet when stowed within the Tempsafe, the computer system is hidden from view, whilst still connected to power, minimising risk from the opportunist thief.
