12V DC Power Supply
The Lind CF-18 vehicle power adapter powers and charges the CF-18 and docking station. The adapter is mounted under the docking station but can be released if necessary for support/maintenance purposes. The display unit runs from the 12V vehicle supply.
Approvals
The solution has obtained 95/54/EC (‘e’ mark) and Spec 5 Issue 9 (VIDG) approvals, as well as the docking station being approved by Panasonic Japan.
Tempus have ergonomically designed and produced an In-Vehicle Data Solution consisting of a rugged 6.5 inch Touch Screen TFT Display and a Panasonic CF18 robust portable notebook with Docking Station. There's plenty of interest coming from the Police sector for having a fixed in-vehicle solution, with the added benefit of being able to remove the PC away from the vehicle.
The Docking Station is securely fixed within the rear boot of the vehicle. The method of docking and undocking is a simple task and takes no more than fifteen seconds to complete either cycle. Once docked any external connectivity to the outside world i.e. power, serial devices, GPS / GPRS antenna are automatically connected to the notebook via the docking stations external ports. This removes the need for the user to make or break physical connections each time they dock or remove the notebook away from the vehicle.
The deployment method is activated by a simple recessed release catch located on the front of the docking station to allow easy user access. Once released the unit hinges open at which point the CF18 has automatically been undocked and is ready for simple removal away from the Vehicle. The CF-18 is dockable in either notebook or tablet form and has sufficient fool proofing, so as to ensure the docking procedure is carried out correctly; thus preventing damage to both the CF-18 and docking station.The entire solution is designed for operation from the vehicles 12V battery system. Various power management options are available to minimise vehicle battery drain.
Officers can control the notebook when docked via a remote 6.5 inch high brightness colour touch display, which is mounted within easy reach of the police officer whilst in the seated position in the front of the vehicle. The display is connected to the docking station via a control cable which carries VGA and USB signals. A USB port is provided on the side of the display for connection of any standard device such as a keyboard, card reader etc.
